The Learning Catalyst Approach -

Key Aspects Of The Learning Process
What Happens Typically
How It Happens at Learning Catalyst
Planning
A detailed plan helps the learner to budget time during the program. Details of what would be covered exactly, what preparation is required, time commitment required, etc..is rarely givem. Every participant would have his individual learning plan at the very outset of the program.
Course Content
Different people learn differently : some by reading text, some by audio-visual methods, some by actually doing , some by teaching others !! Not flexible for various styles We have looked at the best "how-to videos" ; read through group discussions, browsed interviews of veterans, etc..so that we can reference great content online and accomodate various learning styles.

Innovative ways like learning from news. Plans to have more interactive forms of learning imbibed

Document Sharing
Learners should be able to share good documents with each other and have access to all needed documents in a systematic manner Even if implemented, it is piece-meal in nature All good documents, white papers, etc…available in a structured format online. Additions to these can be made by students also. Ever-evolving repository.
Interaction Time with Faculty
The time with the faculty needs to be 'maxed' Some level of reading up greatly helps everyone in the system. But this is not always followed We have a pre-session reading mandatory. Without this, a lot of things in the interaction would be difficult to comprehend.

Learners can comment on the courseware so expectation during the interaction time can be made explicit

Revision
Revision is important for long-term assimilation Once done, the learner typically brings it up when he is 'forced' to do so for some assessment We suggest a more scientific spacing of the revision lessons. Allow learners to make own notes online
We need to bring back the mind of the learner to the concepts covered
Very few systematic efforts taken
A variety of things can be done to 'tease' the learners minds. Our system allows faculty to link the questions easily to any part of the course material. Variety of questions - Match the column, Fill-in-the-blanks, Reading comprehension, etc.. is possible.
Assignments
As real-life as possible
Designed in discussion with the faculty, these are meant to give be as real-life as possible.
Peer review and feedback Generally not followed Collaborative tool used for viewing and submission of assignments. Instant Messaging features in a secure environment
Informal Learning
Try to mirror the real world as this is how a lot of learning happens Scant attention given Peer-to-peer discussion enabled on general topics and assignment related topics. Access to all previous discussions
